Positive Potential

Program Overview

Our philosophy is HOLISTIC, PREVENTATIVE and POSITIVE, focusing on the student’s development of assets and competencies. Our program helps schools increase protective factors, promote school connectedness and increase developmental assets.

The Curricula

Positive Potential is a curriculum developed by A Positive Approach to Teen Health. This curricula encompasses a variety of
age- appropriate subjects, such as bullying, self-confidence and risky behavior that are tailored to the students’ needs as they grow and mature.

PATH’s POSITIVE POTENTIAL PROGRAM ADDED TO APPROVED EVIDENCE-BASED CURRICULA LIST!
The Office of Adolescent Health spent $110M on Teen Pregnancy Prevention Programming between 2005 – 2010. The Office of Adolescent Health offered a Tier 2 Cooperative Agreement with a focus on New and Innovative Approaches to Teen Pregnancy Prevention and STI/HIV Education. With more than 200 applications, PATH was one of 41 programs chosen to develop, implement and rigorously evaluate their program. In 2016, PATH’s Positive Potential Program was one of only 8 new Evidence-Based programs effecting positive changes in behavior, added to the previous list of 32 programs.

Understanding of Agreement

The Franklin County Health Department, is informing you of an Abstinence Program, Positive Potential, we will be offering at local middle schools. (Please see dates below for school and grades).

This curriculum will take place during your child’s school day during one class period for one week. The design of this program is to begin working with middle school students when they enter the 6th grade to deliver a positive, strength-based health education curriculum that will advance in subject matter as they advance in grade levels to provide them tools necessary to delay sexual activity.

The curriculum philosophy is HOLISTIC, PREVENTATIVE and POSITIVE, focusing on the student’s development of assets and competencies. It has been shown to help schools increase protective factors, promote school connectedness and increase developmental assets. This curriculum encompasses a variety of age- appropriate subjects, such as bullying, self-confidence and risky behavior that are tailored to the students’ needs as they grow and mature.

Although the curriculum begins by sharing building blocks and techniques to mainly build self-confidence, it will mature with the student. As educators in this program, we encourage parents/guardians to review the curriculum in order to open up discussions with their children each night. All curriculum visuals, PowerPoints, and Student Workbook can be viewed by clicking on the specific grade listed above.

Each guardian will need to complete a form below for  PERMISSION or DECLINATION for each child to participate in the Positive Potential program.
